About Gnosis

Jesus in Garden The term Gnosis is the root of the English word "knowledge," however it is not simply knowledge of an intellectual type. The word Gnosis has been used by varying philosophical or mystical groups throughout history, but it really refers to the Truth beyond philosophy, dogma, personality, or theory. Gnosis is "direct, experiential knowledge of the divine," or in other words, knowing for oneself..

To have Gnosis is to have one's own experience of the truth. Fire burns, gravity exists; these are truths that cannot be denied once experienced. Therefore, Gnosis is not built from spiritual fantasy; it is the platform from which we can see beyond our fantasy.

Gnosis can be expressed in theories and concepts, but it is neither the theory nor the concept. Gnosis is the intimate experience of the Truth as well as the path that takes us there.

This is the same path taught by the awakened masters of all great traditions. There is Gnosis throughout the Christian Gospels and also in the Buddhist doctrine, in the Tantric Buddhism from Tibet, in the Zen Buddhism from Japan, in the Chan Buddhism of China, and in the Taoist teachings. Hinduism is rich with Gnostic stories, symbols and guidance. The wisdom of Kabbalah, the Tree of Life, is absolutely Gnostic. Gnosis is found within the mysteries of Islam, in Sufism and the Whirling Dervishes, in the Egyptian, Persian, Chaldean, Pythagorean, Greek, Aztec, Mayan, Inca, etc., wisdom.

Gnosis has been present and available under many names and with many faces, but the understanding of this Gnosis is now misunderstood or lost from our modern religious interpretations. Yet the principles always remain the same, as clearly stated by Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ...

"If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me."

These are the Three Factors present in any true teaching that leads one towards the POSITIVE awakening of one's own consciousness.

The absence or disequilibrium of these three factors results in the degeneration of the teaching and subsequently its schools and students.

  1. To deny oneself is to conquer one's own mind, to purify oneself from the psychological elements which keep us from seeing objective reality. That, which is called Mystical Death, is the elimination from our interior the defects of anger, hatred, envy, lust, gluttony, pride, vanity, laziness, fear, etc.
  2. To take up the cross is a precise Alchemical work, the true Chemistry of God. It utilizes the creative potencies from above in a way that fuses them with our own philosophical earth giving Spiritual Birth to a totally new creature inside, this aspect of the teaching was given in secret and because of this it is commonly misunderstood.
  3. To follow the Christ means to live as Jesus did: with concern and compassion for the suffering of others, Sacrifice for Humanity.

Gnosis is called the path of the razor’s edge because to live with the level of integrity indicated by these teachings is a rare and refined path in this day and age. The experiential knowledge of Alchemy, Kabbalah, Esoteric Psychology, and Meditation can transform our common level of consciousness into the level of a Buddha, an Angel, a Master. This transformation, though, does not come about merely through beliefs and concepts or the acquisition of further research, book study, titles, and exoteric degrees. We are speaking of a total psychological transformation, a revolution of consciousness. Such transformation requires attention, guidance, progressive development, and the imparting of certain keys.

The Seattle Gnostic Center

tfhc The Seattle Gnostic Center was established in 2000. This school is affiliated with The Association of Gnostic Anthropology (AGA) and fellow Gnostic schools throughout the Americas, Australia and Europe. The Gnostic teachings given in this Center are in the lineage of Gnostic Master Samael Aun Weor, an awakened being whose lifelong mission was to deliver the complete path toward the Self-realization of the Being and development of the human soul.

This school and its tradition offer practical doctrine, techniques and sincere community with the aim of self-realization, of direct mystical experience, of gaining inner knowledge of oneself and of one’s world. The Gnostic teachings founded upon the tradition of Samael Aun Weor emphatically deny personality worship, money mongering and belief based on personal and subjective likes and dislikes.

We do not charge set fees for our classes and the instructors do not receive payment for their work. The sole purpose of this organization is to help students like us awaken consciousness. The instructors volunteer their time and efforts because they themselves have seen some benefit from these teachings and they wish to deliver them to others. This spiritual knowledge is given freely for all beings. As we must pay for advertising and various maintenance expenses, donations are greatly appreciated.

The Seattle Gnostic Center offers both public level classes and interior level classes. Public classes are held at 2427 NE 143rd St, Seattle, WA 98125 in the Lake City neighborhood in north Seattle. Please see Gnostic Classes for information on upcoming courses. Gnostic Master Samael Aun Weor

Samael Aun Weor Samael Aun Weor wrote over sixty books, gave thousands of lectures, and formed the worldwide Gnostic Movement, whose members number in the millions. Though these accomplishments are certainly impressive by any standard, they are merely the pale terrestrial reflection of the work he accomplished internally, spiritually. And yet, in spite of his wisdom and generosity towards mankind, he said:
Do not follow me. I am just a signpost. Reach your own Self-realization.

His lifelong mission was to deliver to humanity the complete path toward the Self-realization of the Being or, in other words, the total and exact science required by anyone of any religion, race, culture or creed who wishes to fully and completely develop the human soul. The path he taught is the Path of the Bodhisattva, that mysterious and ancient wisdom long hidden in the bosom of every great religion.

In the tradition of Samael Aun Weor, no one is asked to believe anything, but rather to seek to know through direct experience. As Samael emphasized, faith is born of experience; belief is merely belief. There are no demands made of the student, save one: use the techniques so you will know for yourself. The knowledge, like the teacher, is merely an indication, a signpost one should follow in order to reach the goal.

The following is an excerpt from The Zodiacal Course:

I sustain that Nirvana can be won by us in a single reincarnation, properly taken advantage of...

Real Gnosis is the experiential knowledge of the soul, which is beyond theory, dogma or belief. Therefore, we must reject from within ourselves all theory, dogma and belief in order to enter into the experience of Reality (direct knowledge).

The mind must free itself from all kinds of "schools," religions, sects, beliefs, etc. All those "cages" are obstacles which render the mind incapable of thinking freely. It is necessary for the mind to become free of the illusions of this world and become a fine and marvelous instrument of the Inner Being.
- Samael Aun Weor

Beginning in 1950, Samael Aun Weor began to unveil what was always hidden behind the cloak. He indicated that every mythological and religious narrative hides important teachings, and he explained them. This naturally earned him the wrath of the established religious powers and the gratitude of millions of hungry souls. Thereafter, his work has inspired millions of people around the world to enter into the Path toward the Self-realization of the Being. His teachings have been carried to every continent, and the schools he formed have opened centers in countries around the world. Now, for the first time, Gnosis is becoming widely available in English.
